When people discovered that I believed in Santa Claus, I received one of two responses.

Response A was, ‘oh?’. That response generally came from individuals who knew of my strength and were too afraid of upsetting me to voice their honest thoughts. Whilst response B was unabashed laughter partnered with a look that said very clearly that they thought I was insane.

I couldn’t fault them for having either reaction since I understood that it was easy to dismiss such ‘fairytales’ when only children entertained them. I, too, had once thought that anyone who believed in Santa Claus was dull, but when one thought about it, really thought about it, was it really that unbelievable?
