I wake the same as always, with my teeth grating viscously together while I try to peel my open from Rhen’s barbarous grip on my mind and body. 

The pain should’ve been a familiar numb thing by now, but all it was, was too familiar and just as painful.

“Not so soon little brother,” Rhen whispers, her gentle voice sliding through every part of me to ensure that a deceptively light trail of darkness was left behind, “I’m not done with you yet.”

I shouldn’t have fallen asleep. I shouldn’t have taken the chance.
