I wasn’t a deceptive person, and I’d never been. Even when it came to telling little lies, it always made me uncomfortable, but as a full-fledged member of Levi’s family, I was pretty sure that I’d gotten the bug just enough to pull off a con of my own. Or at least, I hoped so, because if this didn’t work and only made things worse, then that would be very bad.
I wouldn’t let that happen though. I had a plan, and the first step of that plan was to get some backup to make sure that things didn’t go bad.
“Hagen!”
Hagen jolts with his hand halfway down Elijah’s candy bowl when I slip into the kitchen.
I frown at him and he hastily drops his fistful of contraband, “I was only going to take one.”
It took a special breed of greed to lie when the evidence was right in front of a person.
