Context for those who might be unaware –

Jacob is Amelia’s adopted brother, and Colson is the werewolf Will and Damon met in the armoury, and they’re both mated/linked to Zhoron and each other, and Zhoron is pretending to feel the bonds while he tries to figure out what the fuck is going on

Kalem’s POV

Zhoron sighs beside me like he’s tired, but he always makes that sound even when he’s not, so I ignore him and risk asking a question of my own. “So… what—” No. I couldn’t ask what they were doing here. “Who—” Who are you was just as bad. “Where did—” you come from? That sounded mean. “ Oh, I know! How did you guys meet?”

It’s perfect, or so I think, until everyone blinks at me, Zhoron especially, which makes me feel like maybe I didn’t get it right, but it’s too late to go back now.

“Ummm,” Jacob drawls quietly. He looks to Colson, who looks at him. For the first time, Colson looks something other than suspicious— he looks unsure. I watch silently while the two of them have an entire conversation with their eyes before they both pin those eyes onto Zhoron.

He stiffens at my side, just barely, but he does it. “What?” He snaps in the way that usually sends people running, but these two don’t even flinch.

“Wouldn’t you prefer to answer that question?” Colson asks as one of his brows rises over his glasses. “If you want, I can, but I’m not sure you’d—”

“It is complicated,” Zhoron decides on, which makes me join in on the frowning too.

‘It is complicated’ didn’t tell me anything at all. In fact, ‘it is complicated’ just made me have more questions! And I knew we couldn’t be as open as we normally would be right now, but I wasn’t used to Zhoron being vague with me.

Zhoron told me everything, always. But he holds his tongue now… until he looks at me and the familiar dark rims of his eyes lighten a little as the first touches of white meld into them. His lips part.

“I do not think our meeting was complicated.”

It’s not Zhoron who speaks, and it’s definitely not Jacob either.

“Unusual, definitely, but not complicated,” Colson decides as he folds one of his long legs over the other, getting comfortable, but in that way Wequie did when he was hunting. “Why would you call it complicated, Zhoron?”

The air sizzles, threatening to spark as Jacob and I’s eyes dart between the two, tossing gasoline around. Colson looks pleased, while Zhoron…

Zhoron wants to kill Colson. He also wants to do terrible things— the type of things I think I would die if I had to witness it to him— but for right now, he really wants to kill the werewolf who holds his gaze until they’re both breathless.

While the heat of their last extra is still sizzling between Colson and Zhoron, I’ll tell you this straight up, Jacob and Kalem are getting along as just as well as you’d expect them too.

I am love love loving it so far, but I don’t want to rush it or get it wrong, so I’ll say you guys can expect this extra either Monday or Tuesday!
