Aiden’s POV

“No,” I groan, shaking my head. “No. No. No. Not again”

“It’s okay,” he promises as calmly as he can, as if he’s not actively shaking from head to toe and flooding our bond with his anxiety. “It’s okay, Aiden. Everything is going to be okay.”

“Like hell it is,” I wail. “It’s happening again. I’m getting all emotional. Give me a day, and I’ll be sobbing on the ground.” I stare at it and feel my heart cramp. “Fuckkkk.”

“It’s—”

“It’s not going to be okay! You knocked me up, and now I’m a fucking mess again.”

“I didn’t mean to,” Julian whines as he clings to his hair. “We’re not even supposed to still be able to get pregnant!”

“We’ve always been the guinea pigs, Julian! What happens with us decides what our pregnant asses, can and can not do!”

“Our? I’m not pregnant,” he rushes to say, wiping at himself as if to wash the pregnant cooties away.

“Yeah, no shit,” I grumble with a glare. “You’re just fine. I’m the one carrying a kid when we just got everyone out the house. Now, we gotta do the whole thing all over again— abc’s, the tooth fairy, ‘cough with your mouth close— the whole fucking shabang!”

More blood bleaches out of Julian’s skin, and in his eyes, I swear I see the reflection of a dirty diaper. “I can’t do another kid, Aiden.

“Fuck, you think I can?” I retort. “You think I can do this again?! Do this until I’m seventy?!” My stomach coils at the thought. “But it’s happening. I’m pregnant and unless you’re down to bend a hanger then—”

“Grandpa, you’re pregnant?”

Julian and I freeze, and I watch mirrored terror explode in his eyes before we both turn to the little rat hanging off the bathroom doorknob.

It’s Sadie, and she’s got pure awe sparkling in her eyes.

“Sadie, sweetie,” Julian tries, lifting a hand, but he might as well have blown a whistle.

Sadie turns and guns it.
