Max’s POV

Grinning, I face forward again, eyes flying to the stage before they drop back to the glittered ones staring back at me. Or not at me?

I follow them only to stall slightly when I realise that they’re actually focused on the man beside me.

Someone turns the music down, I think. They have to, because it stops being so loud and important, which gives my mind all the room it needs to take in everything it can about the guy standing in front of me, staring at my man with heart eyes.

He’s slightly shorter than me, but he’s pretty in a way that’s not my type, but— 

What even was Ruben’s type? 

The question suddenly fills my mind, loud and glaring in a way it’s never been before. 

I knew what Ruben’s type was when it came to girls, but the guy realm was an entirely different one. I didn’t even know he was bi before he said he had feelings for me, and after that, he’d only ever said that he was into me.

I scan the guy again. We have completely different vibes, but he is objectively gorgeous and cute in the type of way a lot of guys like. Scratch like, kill for.

I glance at Ruben, but he’s focused on the stage, oblivious of the guy trying his hardest to catch his eye in a totally subtle, but not at all subtle kind of way.

I’m the only one who notices, and when he realises that I do, he doesn’t look away or try to play it off.

No, the guy grins at me, lifts a hand and mouths ‘ H O T’.

I stare at him like a deer in headlights.

On one hand, yes, Ruben was hot as fuck, and on another occasion, I might reply with ‘I KNOW’, but for this one, the primary urge I have isn’t to agree, but to bare my teeth like a feral animal and then scale Ruben’s body so I can do it from a better vantage point.

I’m stuck trying to decide between the two when Ruben nudges my hip with his elbow, drawing my gaze to where he’s pointing. Jasper is sitting on Hagen’s shoulders while he jumps up and down, leaving Jasper clawing for air as he tries not to fall.

Ruben holds up two fingers. I’ve won, a good thing, but when I glance back at the guy, he’s still looking at my man.
