AU Damon’s POV

“So, we’re definitely not leaving,” Mekhi muses, and I startle a little. I’d forgotten he was even there. When I look at him, he wears a smirk, plus his usual calm back now that his panic has receded. “You gonna go over there or you want me to lead the way?”

“What? No,” I reply, shaking my head as I do. “We’re not going anywhere. I’m not—” I laugh, but it comes out awkwardly. “I can’t do that.”

Mekhi frowns, his gum paying for his confusion. “Why not?”

“Because!” Mekhi just stares at me. “Mekhi, I can’t!” 

If him being my mate wasn’t enough of a reason, then everything about my lack of experience would be. I didn’t know what to do or say, and I’d just end up ruining it before I even knew if I wanted to keep it.

Of course you do! — Theo snarls.

Of course I do — I agree before he can maime me from the inside. I’m just still adjusting to the whole male-human thing.

Theo huffs but leaves me for now. Mekhi doesn’t, but it doesn’t matter because while he starts trying to give me a pep talk, my senses hone in on the person heading towards me.

My stomach drops, insides knotting, but it’s too late to run. I stand stone still, eyes lifting to watch as my mate strides over with a sealed cup in hand. Confidence oozes off of him in a way that seems to steer people out of his path. Still, a few odd faces try to catch his eye, but other than a friendly smile, he doesn’t let himself be strayed.

He focuses on me, and I do the same, eyes never straying as the world blurs around him until he stops right in front of Mekhi and me.

I thought he was pretty— gorgeous. He’s actually heavenly.

“Hey,” he breathes, cocking his hip as he gazes up at me.

My lips part, then hang. “Hi…”

He smiles, and I almost fall to my knees.

“I called you over,” he says, tipping his head over his shoulder. “Did you miss it?”

“I…” My tongue lolls in my mouth, systems disarrayed. This close, his scent envelops me, and his eyes on me only make it worse. “I had a moment.”

He nods a little, smile still fixed in place. “Boad said you had a dizzy spell,” he glances at my cup, and his smile wavers for the first time. “Though I thought she brought you water…”

“Sticky fingers,” Mekhi answers for me, and I nod quickly.

“I’m all good now,” I say, eyes catching his again and holding them. “Very good.”

My mate grins again, eyes practically glowing, and my heart starts beating anew.

Let me tell you, writing this extra has felt like being in a 2000’s college movie. I am fucking living! I’ve had Dancing With Myself playing on repeat and it is setting the mood perfectly ahhhhh
