The problem with having a best friend who was the brother of your mate was that there were certain things you couldn’t share with them. You had to censor yourself because you didn’t want to scar them and with the added fact that Hagen was several years younger than me, sometimes, we just could not connect on things. It was fine with how much I valued our friendship, but when I had no one else to call a friend– a real friend, it meant that for years, there were things I just had to keep to myself.
