Bringggggggggg!!!!

At the sound of the bell, I immediately shut my history textbook as everyone drags themselves up from their desks, wiping at the corners of their mouths to clean up anything that slipped out while they’d doze.

I couldn’t really blame them for sleeping. While I loved History, I understood how it was easy to doze off in Mrs.Powie’s classes. She was a good teacher, but she was also – sadly – a really slow one too. She talked super slow and didn’t get people involved as other teachers did so it was easy to prop your textbook up and take a nap.

I’d shamefully done it once or twice before, but that was a secret.

“We’ll have a test in two weeks on the Civil Rights Movement,” Mrs.Powie says over the sound of screeching chair legs and my grumbling classmates, “that’s chapters four to eight.”
